The power of being real

As you may know I spent this week at the Coverings Tile and Stone show in Orlando, FL where I met some of the wonderful friends that I have known through social media. Now some of you may be wondering how that was, wierd, strange or awkward? Not even a bit! It was wonderful. These people were exactly as I had expected and hopefully that was mutual. How could this be as I had never actually met them before? Yet the truth is I have met them many times but this was the first time in real life.

Through using social media and making those real life, honest connections with people, I knew a great deal about them. As a matter of fact I knew what they looked like and could walk up to them with a hug as if I had known them for years. I don't have any friends that don't post their real life pictures in their profiles- hint, hint!

Social media provides a way to network with real people that have similar interests and by being the real you, you develop a relationship just as you would on a face to face basis. The only difference is that we all don't see each other all the time. However we do interact almost daily.

So as you pursue social media for your business it is an absolute need to be the REAL you. Interact as you would as if you were standing right there next to the person because there may be a point where you are and you surely won't be able to fake it then.
